Like most of us, I’m currently navigating the dilemma of values-versus-survival, in which my awareness that we are living in a predatory oppressive system which necessitates abandoning at least some of my heart’s values in exchange for an imaginary object which I can then exchange for the goods which keep my basic human survival needs met in a market-system. The assumption of my consent under capitalism that I will allow my body and life and/or the bodies and lives of others to be destroyed, along with the body of our Mother Earth, for a roof over my head and a door to close; for food to nourish my body; for art to nourish my soul; for travel to help nourish my family… It is bigger than I.
As such, I’m endeavoring to work as much for free as possible. Education, like food, should be free — without intense fear-based control, it usually is free — and yet, the system in which I am living and working requires me to have numbers on my screens which are greater than or equal to the numbers on other screens, and to move that money around so that others can eat, too. I ask that you move some of your numbers around towards me, if that is available to you. And in gratitude, I will keep them moving, and transform them into fuel so that this life I am building can create as much radical hope online and offline as possible. Thank you.
